Meet Ms. Carol!
Precious Testimonies #421
Carol come from a childhood of dysfunction, starting with her father going to prison when she was a toddler. Carol’s mother took on a job as an exotic dancer to help make ends meet. At the tender age of five, Carol was sexually abused by her step-father. From this point forward, Carol’s life started a downward progression.
By the tender age of 13 Carol started stealing which led to skipping school, drinking and using drugs. Carol was so out of control her mother had to bring her to work with her. This is where she was exposed to a lifestyle that would continue her on that downward path.
Carol was surrounded by dancers and prostitutes, with access to alcohol and other illegal drugs. Carol was taught how to strip and sell her body by the other dancers, becoming an expert by the age of 15.
“I hated myself, angry from all the stuff that happened to me as a child”
Carol started cutting herself to quiet the inside pain. Carol was seeking love in all the wrong places, eventually married at 21 and soon became a domestic violence victim. The relationship ended two years later, from there Carol went from one man to the next.
Carol’s love seeking eventually landed her in a relationship with a drug dealer. As Carol continued her downward spiral she gave up custody of her four children. Carol continued in the lifestyle of selling her body and using drugs.
“I wanted to be a good mother, but I didn’t know how”
Carol felt guilty for “giving up” on her children, because she knew what abandonment felt like. The breaking point in her life came when she was sentenced to one year in jail for an DWI (driving while intoxicated). While in prison Carol was introduced to the Gospel by a fellow prison mate.
“I needed so much forgiveness”
Carol asked her prison mates to help her pray for deliverance of that lifestyle & to restore her relationship with her children. As she continued to study the Word of God she experienced a change from the inside out. She finally found the love she was seeking. That feeling of emptiness was replaced by the Love of God!
“God swept me off my feet like I was a Princess”
One year later Carol was released from jail, leaving that old lifestyle behind for good! Carol joined a church and eventually became remarried to one of the church pastors. Carol’s relationship with her children were restored! Today, Carol spends her time giving back as a Chaplain at the county jail, sharing her testimony with other women.
